Increasing number of spoofed emails from AOL user accounts led to an investigation in regard of a security breach. AOL validated that a number of accounts that include: AOL user email addresses, contact information, postal addresses, encrypted answers to security questions and encrypted passwords, and along with some personal information have been hacked. Hackers used the personal information to launch send-up emails. These send-up emails appear to be sent by a known a sender, in order to trick the addressee into opening it. It has also been noticed that there is no sign or clue of any encryption on the answers or passwords to queries related to security was broken. AOL’s inspection in to this matter is under way. As a preventative measure, AOL is requesting its consumers to rearrange their passwords, as well as the security question and answer associated to a particular account for any AOL service. AOL email consumers took this problem to Twitter to protest and complain. AOL is also reporting to potentially affected users.
