In computer systems terminology, hackers are individuals who search for loopholes within a system to exploit them to access confidential information for various reasons like protest, challenge or profit. Hacking has cost organizations and governments millions in the past few years. Having said that the world in driving into an age of internet living and a host of critical information is relied on systems to be stored, securing systems have become the need of the hour. Computer systems and servers have become increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks and therefore they are in frantic need for experts who can fool proof their systems.
The regulatory body granting certifications for a Certified Ethical Hacker is E-Commerce Consultant (EC) Council. To obtain the Certified Ethical Hacker certification, aspirants have to qualify an examination along with training from an Accredited Training Center (ATC). The code of the examination that needs to be appeared for 312-50 and the latest version of the certification is the CEH v8. In case the aspirant does not undertake training and opts for self study, he/ she will have to submit an application along with a proof of a minimum of 2 years of work experience in the field of systems security. Moreover if the aspirant does not have the required experience, he/ she can submit a request with detailed information of the educational qualifications to be considered on a case basis.
The CEH v8 certification examination is a 4 hour paper and comprises of 125 multiple choice questions and the qualifying percentage is 70%. The certification holders require meeting ECE requirements set by the EC Council to ensure their certifications are not revoked. In fact, the certified individuals need to recertify themselves every 3 years for a minimum 120 credits.
