Last time we had an insight to Virtualization as a significant technology, we are now up with crucial knowledge about the Cascading Style Sheets technology.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a style sheet language that is used to describe the look and formatting of a document written in markup language. It enables users to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML. The language can also be used for XML document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL.
The primary purpose of CSS is to separate the document content (written in HTML or a similar markup language) from document presentation that includes elements like layout, colors and fonts. This separation leads to an enhancement in content accessibility and reduces complexity and repetition in the structural content. It also provides more flexibility and control in the specification of presentation characteristics and enables multiple pages to share formatting.
Other than this, CSS lets you present the same markup page in different styles for different rendering methods. You can additionally display web pages differently depending on the screen size or device that is being viewed on.
The history of style sheets dates back to 1980’s when they were developed to provide style information for web documents. The development happened when users experienced toughness in consistent site appearance due to variations in web browser implementations. They also had less control over how web content was displayed. In order to separate the structure from the presentation and improve web presentation capabilities, nine different style sheet languages were proposed to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C). This led to the development of CSS to what it is today.
